COOGANS BLUFF -Gettin’ Dizzy-
COOGANS BLUFF’s fourth album - the donkey that was saddled with the amazing 2012 Album “Poncho Express” rides on. The quintet returns unshakeably focused in the temporal and stylistic boundaries of the late 60s. An insane mix created by themselves in their own studio. This music commune originally from the north-east of Germany is now based in Berlin and Leipzig, which is just a geographical detail because COOGANS BLUFF is only really at home in a century when rock music had just lost its virginity and the cats wore long hair and freaky clothes.
COOGANS BLUFF have crafted their very own “contemporary retro” sound. So charming that even Tarantino could get into it and think about a remake of 1968’s eponymous film with Clint Eastwood. On “Gettin‘ Dizzy” anything goes: Psychedelic Rock, Folk, Country, Soul or Funk. But most of all good, timeless songs full of great hooks, solos and instrumental parts.
Catchy pop tunes and eight minute epics. Classics like the Yardbirds track “Heart Full Of Soul” or the addictive “Her Tears” will groove deep into your personal playlists. The Krautrock hymn “Too Late” offers some generous solo-trips. “Ellen James Society” gives a short moment of reflection and a view back into the “Poncho Express” until it finally turns into a weird guitar-noise-craziness. And suddenly they start a trip to Nashville, Austin or just back to the coast of the German Baltic Sea with their country track “Things I Could Do”. This all shows the weirdness and playfulness of the band. Choirs, mellotron, horns, great songwriting and good guitar riffs. The band takes its time to explore all this.
No surprise that ‘ten years after’ COOGANS BLUFF is a trusted name in the scene and play on all the important stages and festivals like Duma Jam Festival in Sardinia, the Stoned from the Underground, the Zappanale, the Burg Herzberg Festival or the german Insider-Meeting Rotormania - COOGANS BLUFF have long been written in headline letters on these festival posters and after the November tour through Israel proved a final climax for them they are now back with “Gettin‘ Dizzy” for the next level.
